NUEVA YORK. El 62o. NYFF (27 de septiembre al 14 de octubre) anunció que el drama histórico Nickel Boys, dirigido por RaMell Ross (Hale County This Morning, This Evening), como su película de la noche de apertura. La proyección tendrá lugar el 27 de septiembre en el Alice Tully Hall. Nickel Boys es una adaptación de la novela ganadora del Premio Pulitzer de Colson Whitehead y está protagonizada por Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs y Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. La historia sigue a dos adolescentes negros que se convierten en pupilos de un reformatorio juvenil en la Florida de la era Jim Crow. Herisse y Wilson interpretan a Elwood y Turner, cuya estrecha amistad ayuda a mantener su esperanza incluso cuando los horrores aumentan a su alrededor en la Nickel Academy, que se convierte en un microcosmos del racismo estadounidense a mediados del siglo XX.
